to pauldavis, install what? i have a screen output socket on the side of my laptop.

if u have a screen output, then it's easy. (most laptops should have it since they're meant to be portable and need to plug into projectors and stuff).

- plug the monitor into the screen output jack
By default, the monitor will show the same thing as what u have on ur laptop screen.

Now to extend the monitor:
- open the display properties > settings tab
- click on the monitor "2" (secondary)
- check the box "extend my desktop onto this monitor"
- drag the monitor 2 around if u don't want it to be to the right of ur laptop monitor.
- apply, save and exit

and there u have it

yes, you will have to install it, then go into control panel, display, then click the settings tab, then you can configure it to work as you want.
