The greatest NHL rivalry in my opinion is Toronto vs Detroit. In the early '50s. When they played for the Cup, one of the series went into overtime in all five games.
The rivalry is still pretty intense now. With the history that those two teams have it's pretty interesting to watch them both play. Remember they are two of the Original Six teams of the NHL. The other four being Boston, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, and Chicago.

Sabres/Leafs games are always really fun to watch, because the fans are about a 50/50 split no matter where the teams are playing. I'll take Sabres/Bruins, though, if the games keep ending up like the 7-1 blowout tonight!

If you went by just the playoffs then the Pens and Capitals. Being so close and playing so often in the 90's it is a great playoffs rivalary. Not really there in the regular season though. Although people seem to be claiming the Pens and Flyers is one. All I can say is HUH. I'm a Pens fan and never really took the Flyers as a big rival so please, please don't pick anyone who said THAT as one of the GREATEST.

toronto vrs montreal if you are a old 6 team league person also boston +montreal good then its the red wings +toronto or montreal.the played off against each other for the cup a lot or a chance to play for the cup look it up.
