High school relationships almost never work out because the couple is too young to settle down for the rest of their lives with someone. Going to different colleges and possibly even different lifestyles makes it also difficult to make the relationship work. College is different than high school, and there is more responsibility so people do change.
However, I've seen it done before. In June my cousin and her high school boyfriend got married. They waited until they were ready, which was in between 10-15 years. They weren't dating the entire time though, they had a few breaks, but still managed to remain friends during that time. They must've trusted each other A LOT!
I'd say about 1% of high school people marry their sweetheart. I'm guessing that ever high schooler dates 3 people in school (some a lot more though), and I'm not just talking about serious relationships.

I married my high school sweetheart. He was the guy that always was there when I broke up with the "other guy". We dated off and on for four years. Now we are divorced. It's like any other relationship sometimes it is meant to be, sometimes not.

Well I don't know the statistics but I did indeed marry my high school sweetheart and it didn't work out at all. I guess it happens but it shouldn't have happened to me.

I did!!!! We have been married for 6 years now and our second baby is on the way. It can happen and not end in divorce as some of the previous posters said.
