What kind of filter do you have? We have 3 water turtles (2 RES and a Cooter?) in a 55 gallon tank and we never have a problem with dirty water or algae. Check with your pet store about treatment, I know turtles cope with it in the wild but since its not vital to them and Im sure youre like me and want a pretty tank to show off, try a treatment. Our turtles will eat about anything we put in there so I wouldnt try that.

Get a filter, try a snail or an algae eater, but don't be suprised if a) they get eaten or b) they simply die from being in turtley water. A regular aquarium filter probably won't do it, at least not for long. Go to a local pet store that knows what they're talking about and see if they can suggest anything that you can add to the water. But still, think about what those turtles are doing in that water and if you'd want to live in it before looking for a way to keep from cleaning the tank every week. We've got some terrapins set up in a 3/4 water 1/4 land setup with a big saltwater filter for it, and it -still- gets cleaned at -least- every week and a half or so.

Whatever you do don't put snails! Turtles love to eat snails, insects, and fish. Go to your local pet store and ask them for something to kill off the algae.

You can put snalls in, also try to put a blower or something in the tank to keep the water circulating, also try moving the tank a postition where it does not het as much sun, or don't leave the light on as long depending on how you have your tank set up
