Bite down hard or suddenly with no warning or apparent reason. For example: I was reading the paper when the cat jumped up next to me and chomped on my hand.

To bite, or sometimes to chew.
"I could hear him chomping on an apple while I was talking to him on the phone."
This word has been around a lot longer than Pac-man. I didn't start there.
