First of all, the purpose of homework is for you to show that you have learned and understood the lessons in class. It's easy to do a math problem in class with everyone discussing the answer with each other, but can you figure it out on your own? Learning anything is never a waste of time, you never know when you will use something you learned at school. As for forgetting stuff, well that kind of shows you never really learned it did you? Have you forgotten how to tie shoelaces? Eat with a knife and fork? I'll bet not, because you really learned how to do those things.
To get a job at my office you have to pass a general knowledge test with some very basic math and spelling thrown in. We have found that high school graduates very rarely pass the test, they don't know the capital city of France, they don't know how many oranges can be bought for $10 if they cost 50c each-very simple stuff! So we look for older people (over 30) who remember what they learned in school. School seemed to be stricter back then and parents made their kids learn instead of making excuses for them or complaining to teachers about the amount of homework their child was given. We are reaping the results of that now. If you can't remember what you were taught in school, how can an employer expect you to remember how to do your job? I know some of the stuff seems useless but it's all training your brain to think and reason stuff out.

On the one hand it is really not necessary to do homework from school. But on the other hand it's great to do that!Because it will tested U how much U'V learned from. And really put these knowledges into the functional way.I know what U consider about U may feel these R crap and study is waste of time.Because people would forget what they have learned. It's not a appropriate thoughts.Life is a journey of learning new things. If people stop learning new things, we could not promote our lives!

It seems the education system LIVES to teach us stuff we don't really need to know! They don't do it on purpose. There's a reason: They teach us stuff while our brains are still young and growing, and that stuff sticks in our brains for a long time. That's good, because it's a lot harder to learn new stuff when we get older.

Other positive points to learning stuff which doesn't seem important right now:
Learning & doing homework teach us the joy of project completion, the benefits of reward (good grades) for hard work (lots studying).

Some classes I took in my life taught me things I ultimately never used (e.g. calculus, physics), but by studying them, I learned different ways to think.

Other classes I took had no practical value (music appreciation, astronomy) for me, but I'm very glad I took them because it's cool to know the names of stars and the difference between Mozart and Vivaldi.

Homework's not fun, but it probably is good training for you.
While you do it, you're learning how to learn and that makes you smart. And, all things considered, it's better to be smart than ignorant.
