Okay, so there is no confusion, I have a total of 3 male bettas, all in their OWN tank. They each have a heater(76F coldest -82 warmest), filter, 3 silk plants, and 1 or 2 hideouts. 2 of them each have a 10 gallon, the other one has a 5 gallon. My problem is finding compatible species, I got 4 rosy minnows, the pet store owners said they would be ok, but the next morning they were hiding underneath the hideouts, not coming out. (they were moved into a community 29 gallon tank, much happier) Now the people at the shop said male bettas could pretty go w/ most peacefull community fish cept tetras and bettas. I dont want a recapse of what happened to the minnows, so what would be great fish to put w/ them? I KNOW THE INCH OF FISH PER GALLON RULE, TANK WELL CYCLED, DECHLORED, DO HAVE AQAURIUM SALT IN WATER THOUGH. I had 3 ghost shrimp w/ the male who terrorized the minnows, and they were fine, but they were moved into 29 gallon when he got sick, and they are staying there. I

Also, I DONT want frogs or snails. I had a huge over population w/ snails and the frogs kept dying.

I dont know if this matters, but they were bought at walmart, I felt so bad for them, they were sick and I didnt want them to go untreated and put in a small tank. Now that they are treated they are healthy and happy. Also, please give me examples and numbers.
Thank You!!!!!!!! :)

The basic issues are that bettas differ in temperament, and are territorial.

I currently have a betta named Snail Slayer, and I know people with a betta living with male fancy guppy. (Fancy guppies tend to look too much like a betta.) Some of my betta are really laid back, and others psychotic.

Also keep in mind that a betta is territorial. He needs his own space. In a 5 gallon tank that may be the whole tank. Also putting fish into a betta's tank is a bad idea. It's better to put the betta into a tank with fish. Often just jaring the betta for a week next to the fish in a tank will work.

I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 male guppies and three (now 2, got here upon one finless thismorning.) women. i will't confirm out if my Betta is ripping my guppies fins or the adult males are combating. The women were ideal till this morning. My betta not in any respect looks aggresive in the route of the guppies and all the 'attacks' take position at evening when I turn the mild off. So i don't understand who the perpetrator is.

The people at your shop told you correctly, a male betta can go with most any community fish. I would avoid tiger barbs and other fin nippers for the obvious reasons, but any community livebearers, tetras, cory cats etc etc etc make good tank mates for bettas.

The rosy minnows were most likely not settled in yet, they weren't hiding from a betta, that's for sure!

Best of luck finding what you want !

get some dividers (or make some) and put more happy rescue bettas in your tanks. mine are super happy with 2 1/2 gallons and a couple 8-10 inch fake plants each with some smaller real stuff thrown in. some bettas are fine in communities and some are mean and will shred other fish and some will get nipped at.

Really just stay away from tetras, guppys (the guppy's tail is similar to the male betta and the betta will attack thinking that it is a challanger) and other male bettas.
