~Slavery was NOT the cause. The consequences include the establishment of a bunch of National Battlefields, great OJT for the Indian killers who stayed in the army and went west, and fodder for teachers to ask on homework assignments, to name a few.

Some of the causes, and consequences of the Civil War are over slavery. Because the Northerners were opposed to slavery, and the Southerners were in favor of it. But when Abraham Lincoln became president the Southerners knew about his views being more like the Northerners views about slavery so they withdrew from the union. So the Civil War was about slavery, and bringing the South back to the union. In doing so the North, and South fought against each other, but the South rejoined the union, and the Emancipation Proclamation was written to free the slaves.
