This is a psychological issue and many suffer from it, believe it or not. It is usually a sign of tension and/or anxiety and many sufferers seek professional help. Hair pulling is a subconcious release much like biting one's fingernails or biting the inside of the mouth or lips - just more noticeable.

Tell him to plan to do something else when he's nervous. He will have to make a conscious effort to replace the habit, in the beginning, but eventually, if he persists, he can replace it with something else.
With my daughter, who was twirling her hair so much she got a bald spot, I simply kept saying, "You're twirling your hair." I wasn't yelling, or being mean, just pointing out her unconsious actions. It worked.

Hmm, how weird. Does the hair acutally come off though?

I don't think its like .. unnormal, cause everyone has different habits. My friend bites her hair when shes nervous

He can't just quit, he needs to find another coping strategy for his anxiety. Give him a stress ball, worry beads, or some other thing he can use to occupy his hands when he gets nervous.

Not normal. Tell him to substitute another habit for that one. Like tapping his fingers, twiddling his thumbs, or soemthing that will get his mind off doing that...good luck in helping him! ; )

like any other bad habit, he is going to have to quit it. Tell him he might look weird without eyebrows, something like that. If he has low self asteem(sp?) tell him the dangers. I suppose you could look online to check it out.

It is kinda weird, but who doesn't do any weird things?

i do that too haha...well i do that because... its a security thing and it makes you feel better.

if its nervous because he does that .. you can tell him to fold his arms and sit back and stare at something and dont loose focus. that works
