Natural fiber and Benefiber?

The difference between natural fiber and Benefiber is the fact that natural fiber is accompanied by nutrients. The nature of fiber is to hold together the nutrients, lets say in a carrot, for instance. These nutrients that are packed solidly against the fiber strands, are slowly released into the bloodstream. As they break down they are released from the fibrous tissue that holds them captive. In a way, they are much like those time release pills, the harder they make the coating, the longer it takes for the body to break them down. When we take Benefiber, there are no nutrients for the body to assimilate and the fiber is actually pretty harsh in the system since all of the assimilation process happens in the small intestine, not the stomach. Since there isn't any nutrition attached to Benefiber, gas is formed in the intestines. Generally you will have more gas when you take Benefiber than when you eat vegetables. Hope this answers your question.

All fiber comes from natural sources. It's what the manufacturer does to it that makes it something other than natural. Stick with the natural fiber. It's a good idea to use a variety of fiber in your diet. Each one does something different for the system.
