The Epidural is not a shot... it's a catheter they insert in the spine and administer a steady flow of medicine. And yes, you can definitely have bad reactions to it. Some people can get very bad headaches if the needle isn't inserted absolutely perfectly. And you have to remain PERFECTLY STILL when they are giving it to you; which isn't easy when you're having contractions.
But most of the time, it goes very well. The anesthesiologist do this kind of thing all the time.

I've given natural birth to 4 kids. Simply because I'm afraid of the epidural. I plan to go natural this time because I'm still afraid of the epidural. My mom and sister had a problem with the epidural. I assume I will also.

I don't wanna scare you but if you really want to know I can tell you a few things.
-- one of the side effects is a really bad headache for a couple days. I guess this really hurts!
--vomitting and nausea.
-- when you get the epidural you can pass out if it does not agree with you.
--- I know a women that had a epidural and this is not very likely but it happens soemtimes and instead of freezing her lower part if freezed her upper part and she stopped breathing. She never died!
just being honest, these things don't happen to everyone and as with anything there are always risk.

I had one with my daughter. I get epidural headaches. But when I get pregnant again I will still have another epidural. Try going 24 hours in active labor and not having one. It is not fun. I definately reccomend an epidural!

After giving birth to my baby I still feel pressure where the epidural was injected. Only when its real cold out. I think any kind of procedure whether mild or serious done on your spinal cord will have permanent side effects. Its the primary structure of your body.

Some people say they feel pain on the spot where the shot was given long after they have given birth. I had one two weeks ago and all I had was a bruise. The only problem with me was that the Dr had a hard time putting in the shot and it only worked on the right side of my body (some problem with my back) But I would definately recommend it.

i had an epidural 20 years ago, the anestheseologist had a hard time finding the spot on me and my back aches still whenever the weather changes ...they tell you not to move on it...but they constantly lift you and move you around....how can this be good....and it took days for me to get the feeling back in my lower body and legs...they said this was not normal
Just make sure you have a great anestheseologist and that s/he knows what they are doing

yes there is side effects on any medication we take. to some mil and others extreme. body temp changes, fever, pain , swelling and of course any drug a pregnant mother takes goes to the unborn. So if you are healthy and in good shape then you are fine to have an epidurl. If you have health problems i wouldnt suggest it... I myself went natural because of the effects i read on it. Its personal prefferance and one should be prepared for natural child birth..........no pain after baby was born and you get up and walk as nothing happened,,, as for medicated epeidural patience,,, they shake and feel cold or are to numb to get off the bed and after affects of being tired and groggy.. its personal perfereance and how redy one is for natural childbirth. (which doesnt hurt ) its the labour pain you have to cope with. not the actual birth of the baby..........

Sometimes... yes
I don't know by personal experience, but i have read and seen it happen to others.
My sister had one and she told me that when the weather is bad, she sometimes gets sharp pains around that area.
The best way to know for sure is to do some research of your own and talk to doctors. Ask them the pros and cons on having one.
They will be the ones to give you a better input on that.
