hi, one month is jsut too early to feed a newborn cereal unlaees advised by clinic or doctor. Why do y ou want to do this? At about 8 weeks if your baby is feeding excessivly and putting on too much weight then you can add the cereal to the diet.definately do not add stage 1 aby food until around four months ols. Actally your abay does not need any other food for nurtition until 12 months old, but most babies are eating something by 6 months. But 1 month definately not unless there is medical reason to do so.

It is recommend that you wait until 6months of age. However I started my daughter on cereal at 3months and stage 1 baby food at 4 1/2 months.

one month is far too early. the reason most doctors say wait until 6 months is because before that, a baby's stomach just has a hard time handling solids because they dont yet ave the right enzymes. also at one month, your baby will still have the tounge-thrust reflex, where he will push things out of his mouth with his tounge. makes it a lot harder to feed him solids. keep in mind you dont have to start with rice cereal, either! bananas, avacados, and sweet potatoes make great first foods. you've got time to do some research before you start solids, so go to the library and check out some books. the best on ei found is called Super Baby Food. you can also probably find it on amazon.com or ebay for under $10.
be sure to talk to your pediatrician before starting any solids!

You need to read up on this... There are many different theories as to when babies should be introduced to solids. Once you've read up, then check with your pediatrician. They tend to believe that many food allergies are caused by introducing babies to solids too early... and they make you wait until a child is 6 months old to start them on solids.. (or 4 months, or 5 months.. whatever.)
The best baby book I ever read talked about weight... and that when babies reach 12-14 pounds they will need solids to sustain their growth and health. That made much more sense to me... going by the weight rather than the age. So.. I introduced foods the same way as they recommend.. I just ignored the "age" thing and started when they hit the right weight and acted hungrier.

Many people start at around 4 months, some wait until their 6 months. It is suggested that if allergies run in your family you wait till at least 6 months.
Im going from my experiance with it, My 1st child i started cereal at 2 months. he was a big baby, over 10 lbs at birth and by 2 months he was eating 8 oz every 4 hrs. I started him on rice cereal, because it thins easily and less chance of allergic reaction then barley or oatmeal. He did fine with it, By the time he was 4 months he was eating fruits and veggies too.
My second child i started on cereal at 4 months. veggies and fruits at 5 months
my third will be 5 months next week. he eats rice cereal mixed with pears. the pears help him with his constipation. If your baby is at least 4 months, try him on cereal, do not put the cereal in his bottle though. feed it to him from a spoon. if he takes it without choking or pushing most of it out of his mouth with his tongue he is ready, just remember to go slowely. start off with 1 tsp of cereal mix it with breastmilk or formula until the desired consistancy. every 3 days increase it by 1 tsp until you reach 2 Tbsp.
Good luck

As a general rule, most doctors will say that until your baby is able to eat 32oz of formula/breastmilk a day AND hold their head up unaided, they should stick to the bottle/breast.
Our little girl never got to 32oz a day, even if we forced her. So, the doctor gave us the go-ahead at 24oz and holding her head up. And she ate the 24oz AND the solid foods.
Even the baby food manufacturers generally follow the 32 and head up rule.
But talk to your pediatrician and find out what THEY want you to do. They are your best source for information.
