I'm retired military, have a great pension of $5000 + per month, get free medical/dental from the Veterans Administration. My house is paid for don't owe any bills except utility bills each month.
My girlfriend is whining that i need to get a full-time job and get serious about life. She works full-time and resents the fact that I don't work full-time.
I'd rather go to the gym and workout daily, then do a round of golf, go to a museum or art show or library or go out in my workshop and do woodworking. I only work 2 12 hour shifts as a ptsd counselor. I'm retired military i put in 34 years active duty and i don't want to work a fulltime job again.
Am i being selfish or what? Should i go back to work full-time?

If you are as active as you say you are, then I don't know why it would bother her that you are not working. Especially since you are RETIRED.
I would tell her that being retired is important to you (if it is) and that you are done working. Its not like you are sitting home all day long dong nothing.

A lot of civillians don't understand how military or ex-military can retire so young or that it's pretty much a 24hr job 365 days a year. When you retire you should enjoy that retirement and make up for all the times you were called away while active. Try to make her understand what military life was like and that now you want to enjoy your free time while you can. People who retire at 65 don't survive as long as people who retire at 55. Make the most of your retirement, you worked hard enough for 34 years!!!

First let me say THANK YOU for serving for so long. Second, this pension is your reward for a job well done. Do you want your tombstone to read " If only I had spent more time working..." Enjoy life! You've earned it. If she has such a problem and is not happy for you but jealous....dude there's more fish in the sea....i'd be leavin' tell her I said it too! Carry on soldier!

I don't think you need to work full time but she is probally alittle insecure and thinks if she doesn't know where you are (a job) then you are running around on her...or you will find someone that doesn't have to work like she does...but i really don't know you might want to have a long talk with her for her reasons she wants you to have a full time job because you financlly don't need one you bring home more then my husband and he works two jobs and supports me and are three kids so good luck

No, your not being selfish. You have earned your time to yourself. If your G/F is whining about you getting a job, she might feel jealous that you get all this free time to yourself to do whatever your heart desires. Tell her how you feel and if that doesn't help ... kiss her goodbye. you have put in alot of time and you have earned your retirement. Well heck, I'll do those things with you....

You have worked, and have earned where you are today. She should be proud of your accomplishment and be happy that you know who you are, and what you want to do. I am also retired military, but I do work. I work because I want to, not because I have to, and I know my wife will support me regardless. Congratulations on your accomplishments, and for having chosen to serve.

As long as you aren't needy from sitting around thinking about her all day, I don't see the problem.

Sounds to me like you've earned your retirement. Good for you. Perhaps your honey is a bit jealous?
