If suddenly everyone else vanished, would these 14 people have a better life? Also would humanity be able to grow again? What are your thoughts?

Well, obviously, if the 14 individuals were of the same gender, humanity would be doomed. This question can be answered in numerous circumstances such as:

Would these 14 people have the influences of today's culture?
Would the effects of today's culture i.e. like malls and buildings still exist?
Do the people have the survival skills needed (more specifically the brains)?

Ok, so like if these 14 people were driving on the freeway and everyone else disappeared, it would be quite a doozie to survive...say even a minute. Nuclear plants would explode.
Airplanes would crash. Most likely, all of our 'contestants' would die before the end of the first day.
Also, there is the psychological effects of a few billion people around you suddenly disappearing. They would, of course, all become philosophers.....
Now, maybe if they were like naturalists and lived as hermits, hunting badgers and pondering the existence of aquatic birds, humanity might have a shot.

Probability says: No Bueno!

It would depend on a lot of different factors. What if the 14 people were all male, or all female? Uh-oh, goodbye human race!

What if they were all over the age of 70 or under the age of 5? Bad thing!

What if they were all closely related-- say a mother, father, two sets of grandparents, and 8 kids? Not so good.

What if they were so widely separated in space (e.g., on different continents) that they didn't even know about each other?

What if they were all afflicted with a mental illness-- e.g., all 14 were schizophrenic?

I think if you consider all the possible combinations and ramifications of 14 people left on the entire earth, you'll conclude that with all the bad things that can happen in terms of combinations of people and circumstances, it's overwhelming more likely that if there were only 14 people left on earth, they would have a worse life than they currently have now.

As long as the 14 people were anybody that I actually liked, I would be fine. If my best friend or family disappeared, I would be devastated.

I could still watch reruns on TV and listen to my favorite songs. I might even like it better because I could educate myself instead of going through the stupid classes we take in high school. I wouldn't have to work because nobody would want to come to my clothes store. I wouldn't have to deal with murder, crime, stupidity, or obsession. Hopefully.

Sure humanity could grow again-reproduction. It would take a while though.

EDIT: Looking at other peoples' comments about medicine/technology, I realize I am not intelligent to keep these things up myself. My views are just a fantasy.

it's very hard to tell whether they will have a better or worse life. Considerations like, are they all spread out within the vast vicinities of the whole earth, or are they all in one place? Humanity may not be relinquished again if they are all not capable of procreation.. are they all the same gender? at least there should be one of each gender. very broad question enticing broad answer.

It all depends who the 14 people are. If it included me, for example, as well as my in-laws, life would be much much worse. As far as the thought of them propagating and ruling the planet, that's the point when this little arm of the family would probably run out of the cave and into the radiation.

It really depends- it they were all from different specialies and different genders then i think it would be just like lost (the tv show) without all the killings and kidnappings of course. But i think eventually the human instinct of survival would kick in and they would learn to survive - it would definately be better for the planet but in regards to their own life - if they lost the people they loved or they lost the people that gave meaning to their life - i don't believe it would be better

No, they will likely to perish because of competition from other animals.

There isn't doctors, medications, basic supply of power and water.

These 14 people must have survival skills to know how to live without technologies we have.

14 is too small numbers to sustain a human race.

For that first few days, yes. The kind of freedom that you get make you happy for awhile. But when you had "enjoyed", you have to face the real thing. And 14 people basically is as good as none.

It depends on who the 14 people were, and where they were left. Noah and his family managed to re-populate the earth after the flood in the Bible.
