Snowflakes are condensed water vapor that freezes. They are crystals of water The shape or form of the flake is determined by the temperature and humidity. The higher the humidity and moderately cold temperatures creates the 6 pointed "flakes", lower or higher cold temperatures and lower humidity create six sided cylindrical type crystals. If the snow hits warmer layers of air as it falls, it can become sleet.
