republicans are liars, cheats, crooks, thief's, killers, backstabbing, and self righteous. they think they are better than every one and always right. they never admit to doing any thing wrong. republicans only care about themselves.
democrats are as truthful as any politician can be. and the best thing about them is that if/when they do something wrong they admit it and do every thing possible to fix it. they work for the people. they are not killers, and are not crooks (for the most part).

If you study American History from 1914 through 1946, you will be able to make an intelligent decision. When Woodrow Wilson died, all that he stood for died with him (He was a Democrat). He wanted the US to join the League of Nations and to sign the Treaty of Versailles. The US did not because the Congress was Republican. Those Republicans took complete control after WWI and created "Isolationism." They boycotted German goods to the US and drove Germany, which was democratic, into a depression. That caused the Germans to allow Adolph Hitler to take over. The Republicans supported their rich buddies and hyper-inflated the stock market. They led this country into the Great Depression of 1929. Herbert Hoover was President. There was nothing but Republican Presidents and Republican Congresses from 1918 until 1932 when Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected. Roosevelt embarked upon a Democratic plan which set up government funded programs to put people to work. He established the Social Security Administration.
What we have now is very similar to what was going on in the twenties. Libertarians are very similar to Republicans in that both want more freedom for Corporations to operate without any government control. It sounds like a great concept, but it does not work because the people who get into positions of power in those companies are greedy...take Enron as an example.

There are basic platforms for each party although I feel you should vote for the person you most agree with. Republicans basically believe in smaller government with more power for states and individuals while Democrats believe in big government and that it knows how to take care of the people better than the people do. There are philisophical differences between the parties but in a nutshell those are the major beliefs. The GOP is basically pro-life while Democrats are pro-choice. Democrats are more liberal in their beliefs while Republicans are more conservative in theirs. Hope that helps.

Here is the most unbiased summary I can come up with. The biggest problem is, the definitions tend to shift over time. What was a Republican in Regan's time, is not necessarily the same thing as a Republican today.
Democrats believe firmly in a social safety net. They are for equalizing opportunities for people through spending money on education, social programs, and healthcare. They believe in taxing the wealthiest individuals and corporations to pay for these programs. They strongly value individual choice and freedoms. They do not believe in making laws to restrict personal choices or behavior.
Republicans believe firmly in letting individual states run their own affairs. They are for encouraging businesses and corporations to become profitable so they can create jobs for everyone. Through these jobs, everyone will be able to care for their own needs. Republicans feel a national set of values is important and they support laws enforcing standards of family and morality.

also, not only rebublicans lie. every person lies and does bad things. there is no perfect person. both republicans and democrats can do wrong things.
p.s. not all rebublicans are rich. my family is quite average. also, not all democrats are poor. i happen to know a lot of democrats that are wealthy...

I don't know the difference my self...lol I would try looking in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_%28United_States%29 just to let you know there are other possible choices which you should research. For example, (not to freak you out or something) I'm neutral in politics but believe strongly in the Bible so I would be theocratic. When I did a similar project a couple years ago that's what I put. There are also other parties that are independent from democratic or republican.

it often depends on what you believe personally...
democrats seem to believe in more freedoms... like being able to say what you want, do what you want (even if that means getting an abortion) and talk to who you want, without the government listening in... they believe we all have rights and that the police can still do their jobs without infringing on people's rights...
that's what I believe at least... I'll let a Republican tell you what he believes...
but I will also warn you... you're probably not going to agree with any party completely... and most people have beliefs that don't agree with their own party on a few issues.... but it's just the party that they agree with most...

If you saw a homeless person on the side of the road, would you: Think the person lazy (R), or want to find them help (D)?
Do you think religion belongs in politics (R) or doesn't (D)?
Do you believe the was in Iraq is right (R) or not (D)?
Generally, those who are Republican are wealthier or poor and live in rural areas. Democrats tend to be better educated and/or live in Urban areas.
There are a lot of overlaps and obviously a lot of different issues.
There is a lot to be said for being an Independent.

Republicans take a more conservative approach on issues like abortion. They believe that more people should work and less should be on welfare. Republicans believe that people have the ability to determine how successful they can be in life. They tend to vote for more tax cuts. Republican also tend to believe that you have to do what you have to do to keep your country safe.
Democrats tend to be less conservative, for instance they are more likely to be pro choice. They believe in our welfare system and are more likely to give a hand out instead of making people work for a living generally at the working tax payers expense. They focus on issues like health care and education but generally do not have a solution for balancing the budget, lower taxes, or homeland security. They tend to be more environmentalists...save the trees but kill the babies.
By the way, I am a republican and I am not rich. My husband and I work very hard, we pay taxes and we believe in the republican party. Unemployment has been at an all time low with Bush in office, interest rates have also been at all time lows since Bush was in office. We have not had a terrist attack on our homeland and we have had tons of tax breaks since Bush was in office.
For those of you who say that democrats are honest... Bill Clinton was a democrat and he never inhalled or had sexual relations with Monica.

There is a fourth option to Democrat, Republican or Libertarian..which is unaffiliated. Which means you don't believe a political party represents your way of seeing the world. Tell her you're unaffiliated and why, and score extra bonus points!!!
