I'm assuming that you're talking about free standing structures and not structures that are underwater or supported with cables.

As of today, the highest free standing structure in the world is the CN Tower in Toronto at 1815 feet and 5 inches. The highest residential building is Taipei 101 at 1671 feet. The Burj Dubai should be the highest structure when completed but there have been no final figures published as to the final height.

Go to "List of tallest buildings and structures" in wikipedia to get more complete information.

To recent information it is the Petronas in Kuala Lumpur. Not so far ago it was the Sears Roebuck in Chicago. A larger building is to come up in Shanghai, calculations esteem this in 540 meters, if built it will become the tallest building ever on earth.
