If you already made up a story, then you're screwed. They'll find a flaw and figure you out. You have to tell the truth now.
Next time, if you're being called on it and you don't want to get caught in a lie, the best thing to do is deny, deny, deny. Don't make up a story, don't answer any detailed questions, just say you didn't do it.
...although the best scammers even deny when they're caught red-handed.

That would depend upon whether you really did cheat on the test. The teachers although seemingly stupid are not (well most of them are not). They know what you usually get on tests, so if you get a better mark without seeming to put in any work then they question it.
If you did cheat then I suggest that you own up and take your lumps.
If you didn't cheat then you had better produce some evidence that you had been working on the topic and studied for the test.
The saying 'cheaters never prosper ' is very true.

you stole a key and were smart enough to only get an 88, that is good, getting caught is bad. Put it on him to the administration, say of course i didnt steal a key, mr so and so isnt stupid enough to leave them laying around, is he? I guess you had better do some heavy cramming and offer to take the test again. If you pull off an 88 or better you will probably be forgiven.

Well this is what I did when I got caught cheating on a test: I had 2
cheat sheets both hidden under my desk. When the teacher looked
over and saw the cheat sheets she immediately said "give it to me"
so I gave her one of the cheat sheets and slipped the other one in
my pocket. When she looked around she didn't see the
other on so I got away with cheating through the entire test.

Did you cheat or not? If you didn't cheat then you can tell the school president(college)/Principal that you didn't cheat on the test and that your teacher thinks that you did because you didn't do any work in class. I know some people that never shows up in class and when they do come in (on a test day) they pass. Also, if he does not have any proof then you don't need to worry.

Well, soccerfan, I can't figure out whether you cheated or not. Only you know the truth. I know the knee-jerk response is to tell you to confess if you did the deed. This may be character building, but it is painful in the short term. If you promise not to do it again (assuming you already have) I'd be willing to let you off this time. Go in peace and cheat no more.

You don't sound intelligent enough to have either gotten the score without cheating or to have been able to steal an answer key. Quite the dilemma.
By the way, since you ask about getting "caught" cheating instead of being "accused of" cheating, It sort of makes me wonder if you didn't cheat.

You should always, always tell the truth no matter what the consequences may be or the outcome. Sticking to stories eventually do change over time however, the truth never changes and will always be the same.

Tell the truth. In the long run it is the only safe bet as the truth always comes out, it is just a matter of time.

Did you cheat? if you did just accept the punishment. In the long run it's not that bad and you will feel better telling the truth.
If you didn't cheat get your parents involved
