Sex is a a big part of a relationship... let alone marriage, so why would you risk being saddled with a lousy lover? It's not true that someone who's terrible in the sack can be taught to become a great lover. It's like being a good singer---either you are or aren't, and no amount of training will make a poor singer a good one. I mean, your partner can be the best for you in the world otherwise, but if he/she has the lovemaking skills of a sloth... well, you'll have problems!
It's probably a given that some older person will say "but sex is sacred... it's not meant for pure, casual pleasure!" But why can't it be? Why can't there be sex on several different levels?
Sex in the past must have been so dismal... lights off, in-and-out as quickly as possible, no hands or tongues doing any exploring.
Sheesh! I'm glad that we don't live in an age of sexual repression, aren't you?

I used to be very, very conservative with my sexuality..until I had sex.
You're absolutey right, sex is a completely healthy part of any relationship, and although a relationship should not be based soley on sex..it is nice to have. I would say that sex should not be purely casual, given incidence of transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy...but if you are in something long term with an individual and find yourself able to express on that level people should NOT rule out sex.
And sex on different levels is completely possible. The casual, quick breakfast snack...the trying to conceive sex...and the sensuous love-making that blows your mind and you remember for a long..long time.
You are right, it is good we are not such a sexually repressed society anymore and can be more fluid and open with the people we are in relationships with to explore and enjoy being human more.
Hell, I know I do.

Its seem like people in general are whores these days, added by media perception that you should basically sleep with anyone and everyone. What happens when you get old and can't have sex anymore, or it just isn't as good as it use to be. Problem is that too many people do the opposite and base their relationships on sex. Then later find out that maybe they weren’t right for you. Probably adding to why the divorce rate is so high. I completely disagree. If you can love someone without ever having sex, then how is it going to make or break your relationship after marriage.
Yes, there are still some some individuals that believe that they are showing respect to their partner and themselves by waiting until marriage.

Yes, as much as media would like you to believe that everyone is having orgasims, there are still many conseritive people. Don't expect to meet them at the bar. As for sex, if you really love someone before SEX it will only be better and help bind your feelings. You learn about sex together. Or a girl can just go find a perv. As you can see the 50% divorce rate, knowing more about sex hasn't helped that problem.
It also use to be the man was much older than the woman he married. The only thing about sex that has really changed is people talk about it a lot more. GOOD or BAD who knows.

I agree the within the confines of marriage it is a big part of the relationship. What I don't agree with is the lack of feeling that your spouse is the only one for you in society these days. We have common law situations and divorce rampant everywhere. If people were more inclined to wait and not "try out" every partner they have been dated, then I personally think that their opinion of the act would be much higher and they wouldn't be left wanting as you so bluntly point out. I believe that no matter the situation, if you save yourself for the confines of marriage the relationship with your spouse will be the best you both choose it to be, both of you, not one, so it will be awesome in every way.

I feel that a person can become better skilled through artful education and if you are going to write off a person becuase they are bad, do you remember when you first rode a bike?
You damn near killed yourself, but with practice, you got better. A considerate partner can help hone skills.
True, no amount of lesson can make a bad singer into a great one, but you can be better than you were and that is the key

You're rationalizing. get some self-esteem and either quit having sex or deal with the guilt and continue sleeping with people you don't know. Your pick, but you can't have it both ways. By the way, did you know how many STDs are out there? If you're going to have casual sex, then do yourself and your partners a favor and get tested regularly for HIV/AIDS. You can get free, confidential testing in any public hospital in the U.S. and Canada.

Some people do . Then they move to some small cottage town where they marry their cousins. I for one say do as many people as you want. Stay with one person, I don't care. Have lots of sex. It isn't that sacred anymore. Only you can make that choice right? Its individual, don't put your sex values on me. Say safe not don't do this or that. So I say if you are using a condom then wheres the harm?

My first husband and I did not know each others body before marriage. I would still definitely wait until marriage. Finding a man to join me with this commitment is the problem and I'm in my 30's.

I have a 45-year old (girl)friend who believes in abstinence until marriage, thus she remains a virgin. I think she's done some heavy petting, but has not had intercourse. So to answer your question, "yes". There are a few virgins running around out there ... :-)
