All these bad things/feelings have come at me all at once this month.
1. Clergy's wife, who's in publishing, basically tore apart verbally my work (illustrations). Embarrassed to go back to new place of worship. Also, feelings of "why am I fooling myself"
2. Meanwhile, my sister has a book series coming out, and it's all she talks about. GAAH!
3. Our friend who can be a real toxic person/energy vampire and who I'm trying to limit contact with seems to uncannily call or stop by at THE WORST possible times. i.e. right after publisher feeding frenzy; when BOTH my sons are sick at home; when there's chaos at the house...
Wise people: How do I handle all this?
Psychics: Please tell me it will all be OK
Successful People: Is this typical?
Nice Folks: Tell Me Happy things!!
P.S. I keep asking the same questions, because there's a problem with YA putting some Q's in the directory this week...

My style's more a cartoon style. And it was one of those, "Meet my wife who's into publishing because you're an artist".

LOL :) I love your question!

I'm not sure which category I fall under, but I'll try and help as best I can...

1. Get another opinion (or 2 or 3). Just because she criticized your work doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. Or (depending on how comfortable you are with this), go back and ask her what she thinks you should do to improve. Unless she was really nasty to you and you don't think that it\s worth your time and energy, I would at least try and talk to her (about other stuff) so that you're more comfortable with her and can return to your congregation. If not, start looking for someplace that you feel comfortable and supported.

2. Try to change the subject. If she doesn't get the hint, let her know that your feelings are kind of raw right now after having your work criticized and would rather discuss other things. If that doesn't work...limit your time with her until after her book release.

3. Don't be afraid to be rude...your friend is not being considerate of your time or needs by dropping by unannounced; tell her that you don't have time to entertain or talk on the phone.

It will get better...good luck!

It is just JANUARY! Had to switch my anti-depressants this month too.
You are in one of the worst jobs for stress... motherhood. You are in a career which contains very critical people. causing stress. You are competing with your sister, a very big stressor. Answer: You are stressed!! Sometimes February is worse!
This time next year, you may have no stress, or you might have REAL big problems. Take a long, hot, bubble bath with only a couple candles burning, even if it's the middle of the night. Tomorrow may be the day you will be perfect, and you aught to rest up for it.
This too shall pass, very quickly!

I'm trying to start a movement. It will involve shutting down the world for January and people will hibernate. Care to join?
Anyone that tears apart another's work is just being jealous and spiteful.
There are always going to be others close to us that are going to have exciting things going on in their life. It does get a little tedious hearing the same stuff from them. Just smile and nod and go to your happy place.
The energy vampire needs a talking to. Let her go on a bit and then tell her to STOP!
It'll be OK.
It is typical.
January is almost over, February is short and then it's spring in March.

What is your own opinion about your work? That's a place to start. Is it that your work might not fit in your place of worship?

If it's something you love to do and you don't see any need to change it, keep at it and things will fall into place for you. Everything has a place that will be found. Just keep your hopes and confidence high and believe in what you want. You attract what you think.

Smile deary!!! And keep telling yourself "This, too, will pass". Remenber that no matter how bad things seem, they could be worse, and nothing ever lasts forever. Good things will happen to you again! Keep your chin up!

Good luck!
