apple is a mixture
baking powder is a mixture of baking soda and an acid ingredient
Baking soda is a compound, NaHCO3
brass is an alloy which is a solution, homogeneous

Soft drink - homogenous (it looks the same all the way through, even though it's made up of juice and gas)

Apple - heterogenous (skin, flesh, pips, all different)

Baking powder - don't know, but not an element or compound

Brass - compound (it's an alloy of zinc and copper)
