SpyBot Search & Destroy is a SpyWare cleaner. It won't help much for viruses.
You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
See a good anti-virus software. Without an anti-virus program, you WILL have viruses.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

It depends on the context and the spelling (including case).
There is a well-known virus called Spybot which has been around for quite a while.
There is also an antipsyware program called SpyBot Search & Destroy, sometimes shorthanded as "SpyBot." It probably can clean up after some viruses, but its main purpose is to clean up after adware and spyware.
A good step toward protecting your computer is to have a regular anti-virus program, plus a couple of anti-spyware programs. I use SpyBot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE, in addition to an antivirus program.
Most of the time when you see the word "spybot" (regardless of case), it will be referring to the antipsyware program. Pay attention to the context of the conversation, though! :-)

well spybot is one of several programs you can use to remove spyware from your computer. spyware spys on you as you surf the web and reports back to it's owner what you have been up to. only a scumbag or your boss making certain you are actually working would do this

No it is an anti-spyware program not anti-virus. They are totally different things. You need both to be fully protected if you download anything from the internet.
