It depends on who you ask. If you ask someone that doesn't have kids, and has never been in a delivery room, then it's just science. If you ask someone who has been there and experienced it, it's much more than chemicals. It's spiritual, emotional, and physical. It is the beginning of a new era for the family, and I think it is much more than chemicals.

No more than life is a chemical event. Chemicals flow through our bodies all the time, but there's also meaning, learning, experience...that's not just chemicals if it has significance to you.
And mixing dough is very Zen in its way and soothing and relaxing--a good way to let your mind get calm and focused.
From what I understand, birth is a pretty intense physical experience (as well as a hormone extravaganza.) So that's more than chemical, right there.

Essentially, there is no supernatural intervention in conception and birth. I believe a person's spirit is developed over the course of their life.

Funny. If that were the case, they'd all come out looking like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Then , instead of spanking them, all we would have to do is poke their stomachs and hear them say:"Hoo, Hoo!".:)
