I know I do. I think it is morally wrong to reward someone just for what race they are. In the U.S., more immigrants get full rides to school than Americans do that work harder! I am not saying that immigrants are stupid, but it seems that even how hard the smartest people work, they can not get as good a scholarship as a average immigrant. It is not fair, just because things happened in past, it dwells on us still and hangs over our heads, even though these people did not suffer any hardships that happened in history. American colleges seem to put immigrants before it's own citizens and just the thought makes me furious!

All these people responding negativly toward my question are so ignorant to the world around them. NO IT IS NOT FAIR...IMMIGRANTS GET BETTER SCHOLARSHIPS!! Do not sit here and tell me that I should mind my own buisness or be happy because I work just as hard as someone born in Venezuela and they get a better scholarship than me just because ? And, EVERY one has hardships in their lives and don't stereotype and say Americans are born lucky! DO you know me? I don't think you do. Don't make it seem like you are the victim! PLZ! And for the person who told me I will go to Hell, I don't believe your God and can say things like that on ONE'S opinnion.

I agree with you Juliet. Scholarships based on race are a civil injustice. Why should people who are born of a particular race or ethnically diverse background receive plus points in terms of college application, consideration, and scholarships? Where's the core democractic value of equality in that? I understand that immigrants endure stuggles when coming to America, but that doesn't mean they deserve a free handout. Also, using the past as an excuse for easy money is disgraceful. Yes, slavery was a terrible injustice, but why should those born of today's generation reap the benefits because of the past inflicted upon their ancestors? Every culture has been disriminated against from the African Americans, Native Americans, Italians, Jews, Japanese, etc. and they all are apart of America's melting pot. If everyone were rewarded for being discrimated against, America would be in poverty.
And for you responders who think that giving scholarships to those based on race is something that one should be happy about, you're wrong!! College is a place to gain knowledge and experience in order to compete for jobs in the real world. Yea, it will be really funny when someone is hired based on cultural diversity instead of skill and experience and beats you out for a job. Too bad for you, jobless begger. Who will get the last laugh?
YES. I know there are many scholarships out there for basically everyone, but it is morally wrong to discrimate against people, especially those that are not yet American.
Oh, and just to let you know, affirmative action was stopped in the primaries.

A) every in America is an immigrant of some kind-no one was originally from the U.S. (excluding Native Americans)
B) Minorities are still facing the past hardships, people are only trying to write the past wrongs
C)None minorities get benefits all the time just because of their race-is that fair? Men get paid at least 25% more than females, and that's not fair
So companies and scholarships are trying to equal the playing
field-if you don't like it then oh well.
oh yeah the immigrants as you call them still got to qualify for the scholarship so race is only a factor not the deciding factor!

being a white girl and no offense i can see why u would cnsider this unfair but you have to look at this situation at another angle. Some minorities have more disadvantages than other such as poverty. many people are talented and want to got o college but cannot afford it. plus many colleges want more diverse groups of people including immigrants to give them a name. so it benefits them both. but there are scholarships for everyone including those in america. like if you have blonde hair, surf, collect rocks, play chess, eat worms, all kind of scholarships for different kinds of people. what i dont agree with u is that i feel like you are just singling out one source to be mad at. in highschol i was very bitter towards atheletes because i worked very hard all throughout highschool and i would see football and basketball players scoring points on the field but they did not do well in school. that really upset me. I graduated with a 3.0 including volunteer work and i have to take out loans to finish my education. but the atheletes can have a below average GPA and is offered a full ride scholarship for scoring points. This world is just unfair. but im not complaining. i just have to do what i have to do.

If stuff is set aside to help out underprivileged people, you wouldn't get it anyway. Scholarships are based on a million things, and if you can't scrape together a scholarship based on something else, then you don't deserve one. You're privileged, born in the US, don't have to deal with the struggles that immigrants do, and you have the gall to complain about something that's none of your business?
If Jesus saw you sitting at a table, he'd flip it over and tell you to get the hell out. You are so out of line.

i do not think it is civil injustice. There are all kinds of scholorships out there. I feel like there should be scholorships set up for every group of people out there. I am sure the KKK has a fund set up for white people too. These groups giving the scholorships dont just give them out willy nilly. They are given to deserving students. I think it is apauling for anyone to be angry that someone else is getting a scholorship.
Stop thinking about yourself and be happy for others. if youdeserve a scholarship, apply for everyone you can find that you qualify for and you will get one.
and just for the record, it the "things happened in the past" you are referring to is slavery, thinking that people should just get over it is crazy. slavery is the worst thing that ever happened here. It was horrible the way people were treated. Horrible in a way that you or i or anyone can never fully grasp unless you endured it yourself. I am not saying by any means that white people should still be apologizing, or that black people should blame the white people of today for it, but to say that it is wrong to dwell on it is extremely insensitive of you, or anyone else, to say.

First of all, many of those scholarships are privately funded and therefore are none of your business.
For those few government scholarships that are race-based, consider that many black and native american communities still have sub-standard schools and available jobs because of our history.
I honestly think you need to read a little more before accusing a policy of being racist.

All it does is place more dumbass sub-standard idiots into professional positions in society. Do you really want a surgeon operating on you that graduated at the bottom of his class?
