If you are talking paint pigments the correct answer for primary colors is red, yellow, blue. If you are talking colored light (like on your computer monitor) the answer is red, blue, green light.

They are made form blue, red, and yellow. These are the primary colors. Next are the secondary which are mixes of the primary colors. They are orange, green, and purple. The next division are the tertiary colors or intermediate colors. They are mixes of a primary color and a secondary color next to it. Those are red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue- green, blue violet, and red-violet.

Red, blue, and yellow are the primary colors. Black and white are not considered colors however. They are called shades and are not on the color wheel. And the reason why is ... if you break down a color wheel you can see that the various colors always come back to those three as the base point.

Don't let the first answer get you off track. If a person is talking about pigments, then the answer is red, blue, and yellow. We're talking about light however.

There are four different types of vision receptors in our eyes. Rods, which detect low levels of light and three types of cones which each detect one type of light; red, blue, and green.

Everything we see is simply the brain's translation of how the receptors in our eyes are affected by incoming light. If light entering the eye excites both the red and blue receptors, we'll see it as violet. If it excites the blue and green, we see it as yellow. If all three are excited, white is the color we perceive.

Every visible color can be described as being composed of 'x amount of red light, y amount of blue light and z amount of green'.

Blue Red and Green are part of one scheme. Cyan, Magenda, Yellow are part of another scheme. The latter is additive, the earlier one is subtractive. Cyan and Yellow add to give Green. Magenda and yellow add to give Red. Cyan and Magenda add to give Blue.

Some times we see reflected light. The CMYK system is working here. Some times we see things through a filter. The RBG system works here.

No, all other colors are made from blue red and yellow. blue and red make purple, red and yellow make orange, and yellow and blue make green. Varying amounts of each change the shades. Varying strengths of it change the hue. Mix two opposite colors together > red/green, blue/orange, yellow/purple and you get brown. Mix all and you get black, unless, to be contrary, you are speaking of light, in which case you get white.

The primary colors (red, blue, and YELLOW) are so called because nothing mixes into them to make them. All of the other colors use those three colors. For example: blue+yellow=green
red+yellow=orange
blue+red=purple

There are two ends to the color spectrum beyond which you cannot see, one end is infa red the other ultra violet, in the middle is green.
Lightness and darkness is measured on a grey scale from black to white with grey in the ctr.
