Why did the Punk Rock/New Wave group "The Stranglers" get in trobule with the Catholic Church for shooting the video of the song "Duchess"?
I'll wager none of you can give me the answer for that!

So far, there have been about five or six poeple who have got it, DAMN!! I'll have to make these questions harder next time!!!!!!

All I can think of is the fact that they filmed the video for 'Duchess' in a church dressed as choir boys...was it in a Catholic Church?When the fuss kicked off didn't they make a remark about the Catholic Church covering up sex scandals?

Through all this diversity, one image stuck to the band -- black. In the early eighties, the band's fascination with the Meninblack (mysterious visitors to UFO witnesses, possibly not of human origin, who tried to silence their victims) led to "The Gospel According to the Meninblack", which gave an alternative view to biblical happenings, from the perspective of alien intervention. Soon the band themselves were being dubbed "The Meninblack", further strengthened by the all-black dress adopted on stage. Even today, this name is applied to the band by their fans, who are often to be seen in all-black clothing and frequently go by "[name]inblack".

They dressed up like choir boys and made fun of the mindless, show off, rich people who attend the catholic church.

because it was seen as blasphemous them dressed up as priests in the church.
and didn't the get take off playing this on TOTP cause a certain cliff refused to star on the programme because of this?
