There is an old black and white movie called The Haunting of Hill House. I didn't sleep for weeks when I was a kid.

I guess I may be a little tainted from watching so many horror flicks but I think the original Nightmare on Elm Street was pretty scary when I was young nightmares for sure.
Other then that even though I have never seen it because it just doesn't interest me probably the Exorcist.
The hills have eyes was gruesome but not really scary.
The grudge movies I thought were stupid.

I would have to say The Exorcist, since it's the only movie that gave me a nightmare after watching it. I was only six at the time.

and coming soon, i think the Messengers is going to be very scary the previews alone make me look away
