Generally if the woman is a little overweight, it won't affect her menstrual cycle greatly. If the weight gain is caused by hormones, then, yes, that could disrupt the menstrual cycle.

Being a "little" overweight is rarely a cause of periods stopping.

There is likely to be another reason and it should be investigated. Depending on age there could a number of reasons of which being "obese" (heavily overweight) is one but not the main one.

And yes, when weight changes, periods can return. This can be seen in women who are UNDER weight- they can start their periods once they gain some weight.

No!!! that is crazy she will be just overweight and every thing is still the same.
