i dont get it. how can we be the ONLY planet with living life on it?

thats tru. if aliens EVER "visited" us, it was proabably only 1nce or twise, to check us out, then realized we were just a boring blue/green/orange planet. too boring to abduct people.

It's reasonable to assume that there is life on other planets out there -- with so many planets just in our own galaxy, the odds are good that some of them have life.
Whether or not that life is evolved, intelligent, capable of communicating, etc. -- those are complete unknowns.

But when it comes to "aliens" visiting the earth...there is no reliable evidence of any kind that there has ever been a single alien visit here. So it's NOT reasonable to assume that aliens have made contact with us in any way :)

Well, some people don't believe some things even when you put the evidence right in front of them--and right now science does not have much concrete evidence--beyond a lot of data that are making it pretty clear the connditions for life are probably fairly common in the universe.

That ther's life out there I don't doubt. On the other hand, your questionimplies intelligent life. That's tougher. For one thing, we don't know how likely it is that a planet with life will eventually produce an intelligent (technological) species. Maybe the odds are good (personally I think ther are) butmaybe its an unusual phenomenon. And we have no idea how long such a species is likely to survive, give n the fact that by definition, its theonly kind of species capable of destroying itself once a certainn point of technology is reached.

So--does it makesense that there are (intelligent) life-forms out there? Personally, I'd say yes--despite the rather bleak comments above--because there are a LOT of sunlike stars out there. But intelligent aliens may be rare birds--it may be centuries before we contact any.

Simply because the DNA molecule, that is the basis of all life, is the most complex molecule in the universe, and though there are enormous numbers of stars in the universe, the chances of a chance creation of something as complex as life and DNA are trillions and trilliosn to one.

By this argument, we may live on the only planet in the universe with lifeforms, let alone sentient lifeforms.

Also, ignroing all the cranks who imagine they have been abducted, there is no realistic and believable accounts of visitations of any kind. The most likely people to see alien crafts are astronomers, and especially now that we have banks of telescope cameras studying near-earth asteroids and comets.

Funny that it is only people who are totally ignorant of space and astronomy who see these things, don't you think?

Anyway, if life is so predominant out there, how come nobody has visited us, contacted us, or really even been seen (when have you seen a believable picture of a saucer?)

SETI people have been listening for 40 years, and nothing.

It's empty out there, so be happy that you and I and everyone on this planet are so unique. Life is very, very special, even down to the microbial level.

Believing aliens have visited the earth and believing there can be life on other worlds are 2 different situations.
Most people equate the word "aliens" with intelligent beings that have visited the earth, abducted people, and the government has hidden a few dead aliens in New Mexico. That's the part I find hard to believe.
But life on other worlds - possible, just not proven yet.

I'll believe in aliens when I have reason to. The chances of our planet being the only planet to support life aren't really that slim. There are several conditions which must be met exactly for a planet to even be inhabitable. Then, you have to consider the likelihood of that first spark of life actually taking hold there. If you're an evolutionist, it would seem rather unlikely. If you're a creationist, I guess it would only matter how you believe the universe was set up.

Given the right conditions, life is inevitable. However, having a planet with the right conditions is not inevitable. We may be alone. Until we get around the speed of light restriction, we will never know. As for aliens visiting Earth, I'll believe it when I see a picture which is not fuzzy.

I'm sure that there are aliens, it's rather stupid to think that we are the only planet with living creatures on it. (thinkin about intelligent creatures is even more speculative)

But believing that aliens arrived on this planet, well, this is stupid too, we are just a small insignificant planet in a medium solar system with a medium star (there are billions of stars like our only in our galaxy, and there are billions of galaxies) and we are transmitting signals of our presence only from 50 years. (or a sphere of 50 light years of space around us)

So I think that life is quite a common way in which compounds can evolve. But humanoid aliens are only sci-fi

All people believe that there is something up/out there. Even people who say they believe in nothing technically believe in something.

It is not possible for the human brain to not believe in something.

For example, my dad is an atheist (non believer, i cant spell it) so i ask him one day, do you have faith that the chair your about to sit on will take your weight and not break?
He said yes, therefore he has faith/trust/belief.

It doesn't have to god/aliens, but everyone believes in something, even if that something is nothing!

I believe most people believe in aliens.
If asked, I think they tend to interpret the question to mean here on earth, past or present - and that's a completely different topic.
