I'm a 16yr white gay male who has been asked to tone my voice down at class.
My English teacher pulled be aside and said that i was too loud and that other students were offend by my tone.
All i ask is to be allowed to express who I am and not be ashamed.
Any ideas on how to respond to my teachers request????

Yes, my mother does call me Tinkabell
I'm not being loud I'm just being myself, I feel as if I'm in the wrong world, maybe i should just go and lock myself in my room and never come out..

I have no problem that you are proud of your sexual orientation, but other people may not want to hear it. It's good that you're not ashamed, it's good that you express yourself, but maybe just tone it down a bit? There's a happy medium.

Very doubtful they want you to change who you are. And no you don't have to hide. Consider this, if a guy wanted to wear a shirt with kill fags, or a KKK symbol , would this offend you? Just be cause we have our feeling, or opinions doesn't mean we should try to push our beliefs on other. Asking to tone it down a little is no less than asking the hoochies to tone down the makeup and skimpy clothes.
Suggestion , try it, tone down a little. you don't have to be ashamed , just try being polite, even us gay men know how to be polite.

If you feel your teacher is targeting you because you are gay try asking if you can meet with her after class and tell her how you feel. It may simply be that you are talking too loud and distracting others. Do other loud students get asked to keep it down?

Yes it absolutely is! There is nothing wrong with being proud of who you are but school is a place for education. Sexuality really shouldn't be made an issue on school grounds. I don't see people parading there heterosexualness at school so neither should homosexuals. People are only there for learning not to be bombarded with other people's sexuality. I also don't see what your tone of voice has to do with your sexuality at school. But you should be respective of the other students so that they can learn properly too.

There is a difference in being proud of yourself and being loud. You dont have to be ashamed of yourself but at the same time try to respect and understand how other people feel. By all means accept who you are but dont rub it in thers face that might not like it or understand it.

You shoudnt and your teacher should know better. If they can be offended by ur gayness, then u can be offfended by thyre str8ness, ask ur teacher what he'd/shed say if u sed you didnt like the way the kids in ur class parade theyre hetrosexuality, with all the flirting shreaking and probably kissing and groping all over the place!

Depends on what you mean by parade. If you are artifically raising your voice (in other words, you're speaking higher or louder thanis natural for you) then you're trying to draw udue attention for youself at the wrong time. That would be annoying whether its cuz youre gay or if ur just being a jerk.
If you are speaking in ur normal tone, then **** them. And you should sue.

I think parading it might be wrong in a way that you do it because your voice was loud but if you toned it down a bit it might work because your not getting in trouble with anyone.

If you're talking when you're not supposed to be talking, or shouting, or yelling, or getting "excited" in debates or whatever, you have to respect that teacher's request. If it's more just about your "tone", though, I'd ask your teacher just what is so offensive about it. Yes, you have a right to be you, and you should defend that right. Just make sure you know what you're defending.

well, this depends on exactly what you mean by, 'tone'. if you are referring to just the WAY you speak, then i would say that your response should be a lawsuit threat. but, if you are talking about an actual decibel level, and you are in fact disturbing the class by being too loud, then you absolutely should tone it down. don't confuse proud with disrespectful.
