Flash mp3 players use solid state memory - flash memory for storage. There are no moving parts. Memory size is limited to about 2 - 4 gb

Hard drive mp3 players use a very tiny hard drive to store songs. Usual storage for hard drives are 20 -30 gb

a flash is mobile the other is hardwired.
