I do. That's why I spend so much effort making sure that I'm trying to do the right thing by people all the time. I try to be Christ-like - kind, forgiving, generous, helpful, understanding etc.....so I (hopefully!) amass only good karma. Not working spectacularly for me yet, but it's a hope.
My boyfriend's ex-girlfriend has spent the last two years badmouthing me to anybody who'd listen around town, even though she's 45 and should be more mature about it. She's turned people against me who used to be my friends at school, she's snooped into my life, she's asked friends for information about me and generally been a real cow about her ex finding someone new. Karma has come back to bite her on the butt, because now there's a group badmouthing her on the net due to her position as public relations for a local company. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person in my opinion!!

Most Americans believe that karma means "if you do something bad, something bad will happen to you", or the converse, "if you do something good, good things will happen to you", and some even go as far as saying, "if something bad happens to you, then you are now released from some obligation from something bad you have done". This is all just wrong thinking.
Karma really means "action". It involves the cause and effect of everything that happens, for instance: "If you drop an apple, it will fall to the floor." It's not morally good or bad for an apple to fall.
Let's say you start thinking about ice cream. The chances are suddenly higher that you will soon find yourself opening the door of the freezer. The thought is the cause, and the action, or karma, is the door of the freezer opening.
You might think ice cream is bad, or you might think ice cream is good, but karma is a natural law that doesn't worry about your waistline. Karma just says that if you get fat it might me a little harder to get a date.
The majority of America would probably disagree with me, but that's just because the majority of America believes karma has moral implications attributed to it by religion.
Everything changes, and those changes are caused by something. And everything causes other things to change as well. If you study this and understand it thoroughly, you will be very wise indeed!

It depends on your definition of karma.
You see, some people have a misconceived vision of what karma really is. It is not like: "oh I helped an old lady cross the street, now good things will happen to me". When you do a good thing or a bad thing you will generate a mental impression (which is like a seed) on your mind. It does not mean that karma is instantly generated as well (not yet). Please bear in mind that in our lifespan we will generate countless of mental impressions. Karma is generated once the conditions are met for a mental impression to mature (or "germinate", the term you prefer). This karma will then direct you into your next state of mind. I know this is all too much to understand. My buddhist friend taught me this more than once because sometimes it is a little difficult to absorb just like that. Returning to karma, please be aware that you generate your own karma, it is not like an external force that sees you have been bad and decides to punish you, or has seen you are good and decides to reward you. Karma has also much to do with how aware is the individual of what he has done. If you are very aware you have done a bad thing, then your mental impression will be stronger, than if you are not so aware of the action you took or yiou gave it a minor importance.

Yes, I do. And I know very few people who have studied it who can't believe in it. It makes the unfairness of life make sense.

I would love to believe that bad people get what's coming to them but that goes against my atheism.
