The static has gotten increasingly worse and louder. is it my sound card or is there another way to get rid of it other than hit mute? It makes the sounds whether they are plugged into the front or back.

I figured it was my sound card since there isnt anything wireless around and i dont play my music loud. Just hoping to make it a cheap fix for my work computer, lol.

Usually it is the sound card, or the wires. You might look to see if the wires to the sound card(or chip) are frayed or near static sources like a fan.

But from what you describe it sounds like the card. You can try reinstalling the device drivers. Sometimes there are upgrades to them that change characteristics that cause static, but if that fails, it is time for a new sound card.

It sounds like:

You either have a phone or mobile near by
Or you have damaged the speakers or heaphones by playing music too lound.

If the sound static is constant in both speakers and headphones and no other wireless system are nearby then yes it may by your sound card.

You could have a bad ground in your outlet ..Turn off your computer get a long extension cord and plug it into another room just for kicks if the static is still there your modem is to close to your speakers or you might have a bad plug. try plugging your headphones directly into the computer

If it's your sound card, it's definitely grounded. If your sound card's onboard, get a new one, else try reseating your sound card to another slot and tape the metallic end, (not the contact points, but the metal seat.)
