- 4.0, or close to it, obviously and ranking in the top 10% (if not 5%) of your class
- extensive leadership, humanitarian, or professional experience beyond the norm for 18 year olds
- stellar test scores (top 10% nationally)
- superb reccomendation letters
- proven academic abilities, such as (relatively) high level research, special projects, etc.

Everyone I know who went to Ivy league schools had GPAs that were way higher than 4.0 because of AP classes.
