Your computer is humming louder because the fans are picking up speed to cool off your computer faster. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and click on PERFORMANCE. Look at how much memory you have available. When the humming sounds loudest you probably have the least available of RAM as possible. You can free up more RAM by closing programs and removing programs from your start up. It could be time to redo your operating system, backup and reinstall. OR as others have stated your fans bearings could be getting bad and could either use some WD-40 or a replacement. You can try cleaning your fans and the inside of your computer with an air canister but this more than likely won't help the hum go away. It's kind of like hearing an airplane, when the airplane makes directional changes or changes speed it gets louder, same with your power supply fan and the other fans cooling off your processor and other components. As your computer ages your processor and other components will produce more heat as they become more efficient. Eventually you need to replace the components but you can baby a computer for years and keep it running good. Good luck!

Usually it is either a case fan or the CPU fan.

Turn off your machine, and open the box. Check to see if the fans are dirty. Sometimes cleaning them get rid of the hum.

If the hum does not go away, find a local electronics store (like Frys), and purchase replacement fans. Chances are the bearings are going and that is causing the hum.
