I work for a very wealthy, particular attorney in S. Florida. Today he asked me to take his car (a 2007 Lexus - I loved it!!) to get gas and washed. I went to one of those car wash places that vacuums the inside quickly and cleans the windows after it goes through the car wash. They have about 50 employees that work there - none of them speak English. Anyway, when I brought his car back to the office, he went to get something from the car. He tells me they did a horrible job vacuuming the back of the car and it's unacceptable to him - that I need to bring the car back and tell them to do it correctly - and he's not paying anything extra.
So instead of bringing it there, I went to a gas station and just vacuumed the back out myself and went back to the office and told him they did it over.

How pathetic is that???

Your boss is just a dick- You did right by solving the problem without causing another, it shows you are serious about work, and have a good work ethic! Don't let him get to you, it's honorable, not pathetic!!

I don't know whether it is pathetic, but you took the easy out. You need to learn to be discriminating about services you are paying for and make sure you get your money's worth. If your boss was not satisfied with the job they did, you should have taken it back and demanded that it be done again. It's called customer service and most businesses pride themselves on it because they want to retain their client base. If you begin your life letting people get away with giving you poor service, you might as well become a rug because people will walk all over you.

I think it was a heckuva lot easier doing what you did than going back to the original place and blasting some poor minimum wage worker. It was also a good lesson that next time you get stuck doing this errand you'll double check that the car is spotless before you bring it back to the office! Sounds like your boss is a bit of a bas#$@%!! It's bad enough he made you get his car cleaned, but then to rag on you because they didn't do it 'correctly'.. geez!

Well not pathetic I can understand that you may have felt embarrassed at having to take the car back
Maybe next time take note of the condition of the carpets before and after and check it out before you leave. If you are not satisfied then you can make it known on the spot.

If he finds out he will probably fire you. I would. But at least next time you will make sure they do a good job. Can't believe that an attorney in south Florida only drives an overpriced Toyota.

Not at all - that's what I call creative thinking.
Of course your boss is used to arguing with everyone and sometimes he wins - but you knew that it would be a lost cause for you to go back and argue against deaf ears. not only that now your boss thinks you can redress problems

believe me you did the smart thing -

I can totally understand this. You seem like a caring person, you just didn't want to hurt the feelings of these people and I can't say I blame you. He sounds pathetic to me. Stay the way you are.

That's smart. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Next time, do the same thing before bringing it back to him. What is it, like a quarter?

not very. I would've done the same thing. Of course if you ever went by that place again, you should tell them to do a better job if they want to keep business alive.
