I am going to Japan with 2 friends. What is decent (not luxurious) budget per day (food, transportation, hotel). We are young and simple people. Any idea? We are going to Tokio mainly and then a couple of days in Kyoto and another 2 days Osaka. Any guideline is welcome.

I agree with TwikFat.
Either that or you can always McDonald your trip through which I don't recommend but if you're low on cash it's always an option.
Although it's just a little bit pricier than in the US. But only a little.

Transportation will depend on what train you take and how far you're going to travel but on an average day of hanging out in Tokyo I used maybe 500-700 yen for train rides, less than 1300 yen for a decent lunch, and 3000 to 7000 yen for dinner and a few beers depending on what kind of a restaurant you go to. And of course if you shop or watch a movie or go Karaoke or go clubbing, then it'll change some more.

The train will of course change considerably depending on where you're staying. If you're staying away from the city then the train fare will rise and if you're going to be staying in a hotel in the middle of Shibuya or Shinjuku then you will no doubt find plenty to do that's walking distance from your hotel.

First of all it's spelled Tokyo not Tokio.

If your staying in a hotel in Tokyo the food in the hotels are pretty expensive (about 25 u.s. bucks for a small platter of food) probably not small but not big is what im saying. Since I dont know what kind of transportation your taking i can't tell you a transporation budget. If you eat at a resteraunt then the prices are decent (as long as it's not a high-quality resteraunt!!)

Yes, in English its spelled Tokyo, some countries spell it Tokio. If you put it in romanji it is actually Toukyou. Don't be picky.

In answer to the question -
Depending on the time you have to search for out of the way restaurants/hotels your trip can vary.
If you just want to stop and eat at the closest food shop then it might become an expensive trip. My suggestion is to take a bit of time and roam the city comparing prices on everything, good luck!

hit the all night beef bowl and ramen shops.. cheap food and large portions.. and best yet..it's tasty.

take the train and subway inside the city itself.. much cheaper than the bus or cabs.

couldn't give you any hints about lodging, we always stayed on base or in the military run hotel near the French Embassy
