Who would you say has/had life easier? Working women of this generation with their crock pots, dishwashers, washer/dryers and other modern conveniences? Or would you say women from the 50's who were expected to stay home and most usually did, have an immaculate home with home cooked meals, raise the kids, no modern conveniences.

There are more modern conveniences today than there were in the fifties, but life is not easier as there is more stress.

I don't know that either era is the 'easier' one. They are very different. I don't think the 50's was as wonderful as it has been portrayed. Women may have been abused and had no right to speak out, most of the United States lived in fear of communism, and contrary to popular belief, they didn't have clean homes. As for conveniences, I suspect the change in lifestyle was as different from the 50's as it was to the 1890's as the 50's are from now (60 years apart). In the 1890's you had no electricity, most homes did not have running water, roads were not paved (at least on the west coast) and if you wanted heat, it usually meant a lot of backbreaking work first. Almost half your children were expected to die before they reached adulthood and diseases was virtually uncontrolled in a lot of places (Spanish flu of 1918, and Tuberculosis).
Today, women have a lot more responsibility professionally, but in the United States more than 50% of adult women are now single. We have modern conveniences, but no time to use them. So I personally can't say either is 'better' or 'easier'- they are just different.

Today's women has lives easier. Even women who are not half as rich as those women in the 50's have a better life today, with all the modern conveniences. Women fifty years from now will have life easier and as time goes on it will get easier and easier. Will they be happier, or will they become bored? No, I think they will be happier because they will be able to travel and do all the things that women of today cannot do because they are so pressured.

The only thing different about today is the mod cons, but they are needed so women can go out and do a full time job as well as keep an immaculate home,cook meals and raise the kids.

I don't think either group has/had it easier. Back then, women had less "rights", but they also had a lot more respect than modern women do. Machines supposedly are saving us all this time, but why do people have less time than any time in history if that is true? I think that people watch old tv shows and movies and have some sort of skewed view of what women went through.

The ladies of the 50's had it much easier. Todays woman works and takes care of the home,and family, we cook, clean, raise children ,walk dogs and try to be attractive. Sometimes we do not even have time to put up our feet. We have a lot of conveniences but we really need them, too much stress in todays world and too many deadlines too.

It's definately easier today, and we are treated differently than in the past.
i would have LOVED to live like such a lady get all dressed up in pretty dresses everday sorta like stepford wives. But after a while it would get a bit much, and i'd hate to have my husband thinking he could push me around.
But we definately have an easier life!!
