Why would anyone be worried about dying, impoverished orphans?

It's not just the celebrities. A lot of people are worried about the children in Africa, but the stars are just so famous that when they do something for them it's front page news.

Because someone needs to raise awareness of what is going on in Africa. The kids there face more than poverty. They face starvation, disease, warfare and rape. "Poverty" in Africa means people going days without any food, kids having so little to eat that they literally die of starvation or diseases caused by malnutrition, and death from diseases that would be easily treatable and sometimes even preventable if they had access to medical care.

There are places in Uganda where large segments of the population have been forced to flee their homes in order to avoid being killed. They survive in crowded camps, dependent on international aid to survive. Kids are forced to walk miles each night, alone and barefoot, to go to shelters so that they won't be abducted by rebel armies who forcibly "recruit" children as young as 6 or 7 years old and either turn them into soldiers or into slaves. There they sleep on the floor in crowded rooms, no beds, no pillows, not even blankets sometimes, without their parents or loved ones. When morning comes they have to begin the long journey back, only to start the same walk over again before darkness starts to fall. Those who stay behind risk being killed, raped, being forced to become part of the rebel army, and sometimes are forced to rape or kill their own family members as initiation into the "army."

Go to the site below and watch a little of what's going on in Africa, and then perhaps you'll understand why those celebrities who have been made aware of the conditions there want to do something about it. For me the real question should be: "why are not more people worried about this?"
