This is actually a fairly complex physics questions, but the short answer is that the air in the atmosphere bends the light from the sun. Light with longer wavelengths (red) is bent more than light from shorter wavelength (blue). Not as much red light reaches your eyes down on earth, so the sky appears blue.

Because of the dispersal of light through the atmosphere based on the angle the light passes through the particles in the sky. Similar to going through a prism or rain, and the colors seperate into a rainbow. The sun hits the atmosphere at an angle for us to see blue, but it's a different angle during sunrise & sunset.

A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight.

The white light from the sun is a mixture of all colours of the rainbow. This was demonstrated by Isaac Newton, who used a prism to separate the different colours and so form a spectrum. The colours of light are distinguished by their different wavelengths. The visible part of the spectrum ranges from red light with a wavelength of about 720 nm, to violet with a wavelength of about 380 nm, with orange, yellow, green, blue and indigo between. The three different types of colour receptors in the retina of the human eye respond most strongly to red, green and blue wavelengths, giving us our colour vision.

Anyone that says it reflects the color of the ocean is wron actually the ocean is blue because it reflects off the sky think about it what color is water? its clear put it in a glass and you will see, and the sky is blue because of some kind of particles in the atmosphere light up that color when sunlight hits them, or something like that

ok, every color has it's own wavelength. the color of the sky depends on how the sunlight is hitting the fine particles in the air and obviously if it's cloudy or not. that's why the sk changes color when the sun sets. because the sunlight is hitting the particles in a different way, producing a different wavelength therefore projecting another color or multiple colors

80% of the world is covered in waters. which are blue. the sky isn't really blue. it just appears that way because the sun shining on the earth reflects the colors into the sky. and because the majority of the world color is blue, it turns out blue.

Each color has a wavelength. Blue is a shorter wavelength, so as this wavelength hits the atmosphere it bounces off at a certain angle, causing us to see blue as it's color. However, under certain circumstances the angle will change, causing a different color to be seen, such as at sunrise/set

The very absolute answer is that God made it that color out of His own sweet will. The other question is why is God blue-(the color of a monsoon raincloud?) And the absolute and factual answer is because He is and that is His prerogative. He makes all things the color He wants. Want to see a picture of God (Krishna) in His original form, go to harekrishnatemple.c He really is that color.

If your daughter is old enough to understand certain things, here's the real reason they sky is blue:

Otherwise, I would say something like "Because that's god's favorite color!" or something simple and silly like that.

I like someone's answer above me who said it reflects off the ocean, too.
