I've tried an internet search to find this out, but cannot find any information on this, so a snake expert would probably have the answer.

hmm...I was wondering the same thing. I have a rattlesnake rattle in my fiddle and its falling apart. nOw the contents of the rattle are all inside my fiddle. My fiddle teacher told me the powder was piosonous, but I just want to get some other opinions. I'm just worried that when I play it and breath, I'll be breathing piosonous powder. Sounds pretty stupid, huh?

The powder in a rattlesnakes rattle (not that i've ever seen powder in a rattlesnakes rattle) would really not be anything too much different than the powder from filing your nails. It's completely harmless, don't believe every old wive's tale you hear.

Did you really mean "powder"? The venom of a rattlesnake is poisonous. Are you asking if touching a dried out rattlesnake would be poisonous? Not to my knowledge, but I wouldn't want to try it.

PRXLYKOS is right. The rattle is only left over scales from shedding. The older they get the bigger the rattle. No venom in it whatsoever. Although I do not suggest eating it. And for another note there is no such thing as poisonous snakes. Only venomous. The powder in them is just broken down scale dust. No worries.

i doubt it- their tails are just modified scales. as the rattlesnke growes older new segments are added- they break off. scales are composed of a substance similar to that of our fingernails. the only venomous part of the animal is the actual venom. i ouldent be worried.
