Donate it to a church, you'll have to call around to see which ones take them in your town, they'll delete/erase all your files and programs from the computer, they'll add the programs they need on it and then they'll donate them to missionary programs overseas, usually they're used to keep records on the people, medical and such, it's a good cause, and it helps a lot of people.

If it's a desktop, remove the harddrive and give the rest away.
If it's a laptop removing the harddrive might be a bit more difficult, but you could erase the content, and again give it away.
Other than that, there should be some local place that takes in electronics for recycling.

If you are using mac OS: Do a 35-pass erase on your HD. Repeat for 3/4 times. Re-install the original software included. donate it to someone who could really use it.

like everybody else says, take out the hard drive, except...dont burn it, smash it, Ive actually burned a hard drive before, put it back in, still worked, smash it good, and you wont be able to use it. Then just give it away or something.

You could donate it to a charitable organization, and use a tool like killdisk to clean your harddrive off. >>
