I recently read a book called "Reiffen's Choice" by S. C. Butler. I found the storyline to be interesting and the mythology created for the world fascinating. However, if you don't like fantasy this will probably not be your cup of tea.
If you enjoy realistic fiction, try "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is probably my top recomendation. Besides, plenty of teens have seen the movie already, and the comparison of the two is a great source of discussion.
