I am trying to find a new laptop and with my requirements, both HP and Dell have the same price. Which laptop would you recommend? (If you have any negative experiences with either, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks!)

HI there. I have been using HP/Compaq Laptop for 7 years now. from the Armada line, Evo Line and now the n-series. I found out that the first thing that gives is the battery in just less than 18 months next is the power supply in two years, then the drive in three years and finally the motherboard. That does not include a periodic problems that occurs. I found out that HP/Compaq does not have a strict Q & A control. If there is a batch problem which usually happens they usually detect it after several customer complaints. They will buy the cheapest OEM components that will meet their minimum criteria. But now I have shifted to Dell Latitude Laptops. I have been using them for more than two years and the only incident I had was a call from their services department to replace the battery because of some worldwide problem but I never did had a problem with my old battery. Nothing has failed, I keep on dropping it. It never hanged which is unusual and I am happy with it. My comment is that it looks a bit boring but it is so damn reliable. I abuse it and it takes it like nothing. Good luck and hope I helped a little.

If they are both the same in terms of your needs either would be fine. Dell has over the last year or so gotten some negative press about support. As a result they have spent several hundred dollars to beef up their customer service. Both products are most likely made overseas by systems integrators and HP and Dell put their names on the laptops.

People can always tell you plus or minus stories about there laptop experiences. If you want to check them out call their customer service and get a feel first hand how they treat customers, but keep in mind that is only one brief call and your next call to a different person could be completely different.

So, the bottom line ... I don't see how you could go wrong either way you decide, as they are both reputable, financially strong companies. You might the reviews in the PC magazines to see if either laptop you are considering has a better feature set.

I bought a Dell in 2003, and it has worked OK. I've never owned a HP, so can not comment. I know from experience Dell is good if the warranty is "complete care", but you may want to research this as things tend to change over time. Most important to me is the warranty and I would suggest you consider this very important in your decision.

Dell!!
they are sturdier, more reliable, and when they do have a problem with them, it costs less to fix.
I have owned six laptops, so i know what i'm talking about.
