The uneven brick surface tears up a sponge mop. I've never used a string mop, but if it slops too much water on the floor, the water would collect in the grout between the bricks and mildew.

well I think if you have the right wringer to squeeze all the water out of the string mop then they are the best. people make the mistake of using bleach this just burns the string´s and also after the mop dries it has a bad smell. best using your own washing powder to clean the mop give a good swirl in the soap rinse well then leave in a well aired place to dry, also when washing your brick floor if you use boiling hot water you will remove all the dirt and the floor will dry much quicker

Use a scrub brush with a long handle!! That should work for the brick floor. Just use hot water vinegar and a little bit of dishwashing liquid in the water. Should come up clean. You can get those in the local hardware store or at a lowes or home depot. This is what they look like. http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1377811&cp=1254532.1254922.1305587&parentPage=family&searchId=1305587

for 139.00 you can buy an electric one that scrubs it and sucks the water up.. Plus no sweeping it.. Just fill it up, turn it on and tell yourself you will never mop again!!..lol

It is called Floor Mate, made by hoover.. And you can use it on wood floors to.. I wouldn't use cotton on it, or you'll be picking out the cotton when it frays..
If you have a small wet/dry vacuum, you can also wet the floor with a handle brush and vac the water up..
Hey, good luck!!..
