Be a mechanical engineer, and invent a new piece or part that is safer or more efficient. Just invent it at home with your own tools so your grubby employer can't take the patents for your inventions.

Get involved in car design. With a great deal of hard work (don't underestimate this!)and some luck, you might end up with a design firm that works for the high end luxury car manufacturers like Ferrari or Lamborghini. Even GM, Ford etc. will sometimes use outside design firms for specialty cars.

I hear stealing cars can be quite lucrative...

I'd start by working at a high-end specialty shop, selling all those ridiculous after-market speed kits and stuff. There's gotta be high margins on that stuff, since the people buying massive spoilers for the 15 year old Honda Civic are so stupid anyway, seems to me it'd be easy to overcharge them.

1.)Start your own " Pimp My ride " type shop; 2.Get Finance for your own car dealership 3.) Get into a factory training apprenticeship with a high dollar auto maker and become a factory technician (as in their high performance race division). Just afew thought on the issue.
