My Boyfriend hasn't filed in a few years. He has never owed but we are not sure what the procedure is for filing. He has the W2's for the last 5 years. Any help would be great

Friendlydidly might be friendly, but his answer is way off. The IRS still requires that your boyfriend file all his back returns, but he just won't get the refunds that he would have been due for tax years before 2003 - and he won't get that unless he gets that year's return filed before April 15 this year.

To file, go to irs.gov and download the forms for those years. You have to use the right year's forms and instructions, since the numbers on the tax tables and for exemptions change a little each year. Fill them out and mail them in. It's too late to efile them. He should get his refunds for 2003 and later. If he didn't owe in any year, there should be no penalties.

If friendlydiddly's advice is representative of H&R's preparers, I'd stay far away from them.

Get copies of the tax return forms for those years and fill it out and send it in. If he is expecting refunds, he needs to file them quickly. For tax year 2003, he can only receive a refund if he files the tax return by April 17, 2007. He has only 3 years to claim a refund. For the years prior to 2003, it's too late and he won't get any of the money owed to him.

I work for H & R block, I am a licensed tax preparer. Your boyfriend hasn't filed for the past 5 years and the IRS only permitsto go back 3 years that means he could only file for 2005,
2004, and 2003. The only way he could file his other w-2's is if the IRS would require him to file taxes that specific year and of course he would recieve a letter from them.
All he has to do is go in to any H & R block office and let them know you want to file for whatever year it is that you are filing and they will ask questions like your name, social security #, address phone #, and of course if you have any dependents for that year that you are filing. then after a few minutes they will let you know if you will owe or get a refund. And after that you will mail it off and wait 6-8 weeks for a response. or if you owe you will mail off the return with the amout due.
On your w-2's in box #2 check to see if you have any federal witholding, and if you do you should be able to get money back depending on how much was taken out. if it wasn't enough to cover you tax liability then you don't get a refund but if it was enough to cover tax liability then you should get the difference.

you will document your tax return in February via April . As prevalent you will do the prevalent 1040 type like maximum folk. yet on the grounds which you're working as a contractor, you will additionally incorporate the type schedule C and the schedule SE. you pays only as quickly as on the time you document. yet once you owe greater one thousand money then you quite ought to owe a penalty. you're able to circumvent the penalty by using paying quarterly predicted money.
