Jack & Diane by John Mellencamp was #1 in October 1982. I also know Rick Springfield's Don't Talk To Strangers was Number 2 in 1982. Were these songs on the charts at the same time?

Rick Springfield's song was popular early in 1982, while John Cougar's song charted in the fall of 1982...my senior year of high school

Ah...high school days! I believe they were. They were both very big hits and on for a long time.
