The granite will need to erode and the quartz that is in it needs to be deposited somewhere (by wind, water, or gravity). Then it can form into sandstone after compaction. The sandstone would probably be bound together by some of the other minerals in the granite such as silica or calcite.

To turn granite into sandstone you need to weather it. Same as all the other answers. However, to re-lithophy the fragments they need to be cemented together. Either by carbonates or salicifycation (quartz) and compaction. And by the way sandstone made from granite is called Arkose Sandstone. That means that it contains fragments of feldspar, mafic minerals like biotite and or muscovite and of course quartz. These are the main minerals that are contained in granite.

To change granite (igneous rock) into sandstone (sedimentary rock) granite would have to be subjected to weathering. Thus turning it into smaller grains so that it could be cemented back together under pressure, creating sandstone

well actually it's two steps. First the granite would have to erode into small grains, which would then need to be compacted into sandstone, which is a sedimentary rock.
