Hi there,

I totally agree with you. Don't get me wrong I am an animal lover and am very sad that Barbaro was euthanized, but my husband is also active duty Army and spent 8 months in Iraq. He came home safe and sound (thank the good Lord) but many of his fellow soldiers didn't. I think the United States is so frustrated with this war and it's repercussions that we're trying to avoid it, mentally, emotionally and physically at all costs. I just hope others realize that our troops need more support now than they ever have.

I couldn't agree more, our local paper has been on this "dead horse" subject for quite a few days. There is a tiny blurb about all the troops that were killed in the war in Iraq. The priorities of the media are seriously screwed up.

I won't state my true opinion about the horse because my answer probably would overly insult someone. But seeing how people are that upset over a race horse, they should be upset about our troops. I hope they come home soon and this war we're in ends soon.

I tend to think most Americans don't have more sympathy for a horse, but the media has bombarded us with three days worth of human interest stories concerning this animal. Just like last weekend's headlines about the judges on "American Idol" being meanies, these are distractions aimed at keeping us as ignorant as possible to what our government is really up to.....or are we to believe that goofy, untalented movie star wanna-bees complaining about being called goofy, untalented movie star wanna-bees was the most relevant news of the day?

It has not been my experience that the horse is mourned more than our troops. Sometimes the news media doesn't have a whole lot of information when troops are killed, pending notification of the families, debriefings, etc.

I have seen coverage of memorial services, impromptu memorials, fundraisers for the families of fallen soldiers, t-shirts, bumper stickers, remembrance decals, park benches dedicated to soldiers, trees planted, schools planting memorial gardens, etc.

I think its the media (press) that causes this. I don't feel more upset over a dead horse than news on our troops. Though maybe the press is trying to do so......?

I think people that ask such questions should really open their eyes. Not everyone is in favor of what our dumb decisions our president makes.

There are many who felt this war was very unnecessary in costing so many soldiers lives to begin with.

The more demand for why people don't feel sympathy, the less will be give , because MANY PEOPLE FEEL their shouldn't have been a war to begin with, but of course there will be dumb believers in the president, and then ASKING such questions on why people feel the way they do about the war in Iraq....

Well, I don't pay attn to any news, usually, except politics seem to be changing, so I'll tune in a bit more.
Now, Americans are known to be much more concerned with the individual than with social groups.
One horse. Many troops.
When that female soldier was nearly killed, and then released, well, now, THAT was a story about an individual.
We relate to that.
If 50,000 horses died tomorrow, no one would really care.

You are absolutely right. And let me add my own tidbit here: how many children are starving and living in drug infested areas w/ rats rustling thru their clothes and beds at night? Yet our society saw it fit to spend millions on a big, dumb, stupid animal. Don't get me wrong, I love animals. But lets value people more shall we? Especially the ones dying innocently for our right to make the millions.

Horses are something which people could have affections for. But troops. Whats a troop? They are like chess pieces, people who volunteer to be your chess pieces which "you" (the voter) and your politicians play. When they die, it is "your" fault.
